It was a momentous day on Saturday, July 19th. Tokyo Rebel and Baby, the Stars Shine Bright opened its doors for business, attracting Lolitas and Japanese fashion lovers (and awe struck passerbys) far and wide (some as far as Canada!).
I managed to take a few girls in line who wanted to dress their best for the special occasion.

Stopped by this place after a quick shopping trip to the Lower East Side. Sweet Buttons Dessert is really cute and purple, and their cute chalkboard menu attracted me the most. Their cupcakes are alot like Baked by Melissa but with a more gourmet taste — especially with flavors like Chocolate Nutella, Pistachio, and Lemon Curd. They also had seasonal ones like Firecracker and Orange Creamsicle.
I chose an Orange Creamsicle, which was a vanilla cake with orange marmalade filling and an orange slice on top! It was quickly devoured and tried not to buy another. Though at $1.50 it is definitely a treat worth indulging.
In addition to cupcakes they had single serving dessert cups and tarts! If you are in the area, it’s definitely a place to check out and grab a bite (or 6).

Having been to bigger cons like New York Comic Con and Otakon, it makes me appreciate the quaint smaller cons. With larger events you have to really plan out your day, while smaller events you have the choice of going or not going — and it’s not a great disappointment if you are not able to go you will be able to find something else to do. In addition, I’m able to see the small con grow bigger.

Connecticon is always a great “starter” con despite its growth. It’s a great introduction to “con culture.” Check out below for the other cool cosplay I spotted that weekend.
I’m sure readers and Lolitas across the East Coast have been overwhelming ecstatic about the news of Tokyo Rebel joining forces with Baby, the Stars Shine Bright and opening a store in New York City on July 19th.
Today the new website announced their location: 158 Allen Street! Located in the Lower East Side, it will fit right in with all the vintage shops and great eateries around the area.

Been on a no-cupcake diet lately. I’m off it now and have been staring at this leopard print cupcake purse by Betsey Johnson. Would go great with any Punk Lolita outfit, don’t you think?
Sebastian Masuda visited New York City last year, with prospects of doing a future exhibition. That exhibition is called “Colorful Rebellion – Seventh Nightmare.” This will be his New York debut into the city’s art scene, which will certainly be a treat and definitely attract anyone interested in Japanese pop culture. There is not much else revealed about his art exhibition other than the theme being the “2 Deadly Sins of Sebastian Masuda,” but it will be bright, colorful, and just plain bizarre.
From February 27 to March 29 you will be able to visit the artwork created by the same person behind 6%DokiDoki (which has an online shop now). You’ll not only get to see his artwork in person, but see the man himself, Sebastian Masuda. According to a TokyoFashion, he’ll also be holding special performances from March 3rd – March 6th, where his alter ego will appear.

These 3D kumukumu puzzles have caught my eye after my husband linked me to a macaron one. I did some more digging and found a ones of all different sizes and characters – including these adorable Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma cupcake puzzles. I love puzzles but no longer have the time or space, but these 3D ones are great to show off once your done.

With a rapid growing community, Lolita fashion has become a popular topic. As such it’s important to bring to light the often misconceptions associated this Japanese fashion. That it is not a costume, but a fashion. However there is also a continual debate of whether it is a “lifestyle;” by adopting the fashion does one then adopt characteristics associated with “Lolita” fashion to be a true Lolita?
“Lolita Fashion: Costume or Culture” is become a popular event for the community, not only because of the topic but their speakers. Japan Society has invited Misako Aoki, the former Kawaii Ambassador and founder of the Japan Lolita Association will be speaking about her thoughts on this debate of fashion versus culture.
She will be accompanied by two famous Lolita bloggers: Caro from FYeah Lolita and Christina from Ramble Rori. The lecture will be moderated by Gwyinn Galitzer. Both ladies have dedicated themselves to dispelling myths and bringing insight to anyone interested on what Lolita fashion is really about.
There will be a small meet and greet wine reception after the lecture, so dress your best and learn what your fellow fashion enthusiasts have to say! As well as get an opportunity to meet a lot of well-dressed attendees and find out what Lolita fashion is really all about.

The Grand Central Holiday Fair opened up for the holidays yesterday, and I decided to poke around while waiting for my husband’s train to get in. I found these olive oil soap cupcakes at Australian Scent. They come in a variety of flavors, and cost $22 (or 2 for $40).
The Holiday Fair runs from November 18th to December 24 in the Vanderbilt Hall. There’s also a shop with a crocheted Victorian bonnet, which I encourage everyone to check out.
