YOLO – Recaps and Resolutions

A photo collage of 2012 from left to right in no particular order: Met Simon Doonan; hosted a summer potluck; Saw the My Little Pony Project; Went to AnimeBoston as press; Got Married; Started up an Etsy shop; Met some Bay Area Lolitas and Twinkie Chan; Celebrated the end of 2012 with a new career goal.

Resolutions are really not meant to be kept, but act as guidelines to strive for. And always at the end of the year you should always give yourself an “A for effort.”  Even if you do not fulfill all of them.

However you should have accomplished at least one.

The only real resolution I would like to keep is to live life for the experience and get a good story out of it.  Because this was really a raison d’etre I have followed for most of my adult life.

It was the reason I chose the college I went to.
It was the reason I moved to New York City.
It was reason I got into Lolita fashion.
It was one of the reasons I created this blog.

You have probably noticed the voice of this blog has changed a bit the few times I’ve written.  In the future things won’t be too different – at least I hope not.  There will be less events posts and more event coverage posts. I hope there will be more quality posts. Perhaps more “what I think about the fashion” posts.

And of course, lots of food posts.

Do you have any realistic resolutions 2013?

Resolutions for 2012

Step into 2012 right. Or risk becoming a fossil like this dinosaur.

We are hours away from ringing in the New Year.  I’m leaving Times Square for the tourists and enjoying a bottle of Eve’s Cidery Essence and making my Netflix queue smaller.

It’s always fun to compare last year’s resolutions to this year’s and next year’s see whether you’ve actually accomplished anything. Plus it’s a good reminder for when you put “lose weight” on your list and you supposedly forgot about it.

Last year’s resolutions:

  • Be more selective with brand purchases rather than splurge. (a.k.a. less impulse buys)
  • Try to acquire more casual pieces for hanging around the house.
  • Learn to navigate Baby’s new website.
  • Make time for hanging out with my Lolita friends.
  • Try fairy-kei or pop-kei.
  • Host a Lolita meet-up or panel.
  • Visit the FIT exhibit Japan Fashion Now.
  • Travel to San Francisco to shop at the Angelic Pretty store.
  • Think of new topics and places to see for Lolita and the City.

This year’s resolutions:

  • Try to wear Lolita when I can.
  • Coordinate more with existing wardrobe. (That mean’s buy less brand)
  • Travel more.
  • Take lots of photographs. Acquired two vintage film cameras and want to put good use to them.
  • Work on a collection of Lolita focused essays.
  • Think of new topics and places to see for Lolita and the City.

Blog resolutions:

  • Write two articles per week
  • Focus more on “foundation” articles. Restaurant reviews. Fun NYC facts that everyone knows or doesn’t know about.
  • Write at least one Lolita-minded article a month.
Pay no mind to the candle hole. It’s my birthday today.

Did you complete your list of resolutions for last year? Do you have any “reasonable” resolutions for this year? Let’s here them!

A Year of Lolita and Resolutions

2010 was the Year of the Lolita

Now that Christmas is over, it’s onto celebrating the beginning of the end of 2010.

I’m not one for big crowds or standing in the cold for six hours waiting for a ball to drop, so I will be counting down indoors. Perhaps turning on ABC’s Rocking New Year’s Eve.

This year has been a very good year for me, especially in terms of Lolita.  I acquired three pieces from my “dream dress” wishlist. I’ve made a whole lot of Lolita friends — who’ve now become friends who just happen to be Lolitas. The fashion has slowly integrated into my regular fashion that I can barely tell the difference.

And then I started this blog.

After getting into Lolita, I wanted to create a blog — but I didn’t want those typical Lolita blogs where you talk about being a Lolita with occasional haul videos/posts. I wanted a blog that would still talk about Lolita but will additional tips that relates to Lolita, but also in regular life. It’s a long way from being one of the more known bloggers in the Lolita community, but I’m not losing steam yet which is good. So I do hope that you continue to read it and discover New York the way I have and continue to do so.
Although I’ve accomplished a lot in terms of Lolita, there’s always room for improvement. Instead of doing a regular list of resolutions that I know I’ll never accomplish, I’ve decided to create a list reserved just for Lolita:

It’s not much, but it’s a good list to start the year on the right Lolita foot. I know there are a few things I can easily check off. What’s your New Year’s Resolution? Do you have resolutions reserved just for Lolita? Let’s hear them! They can been outrageous, practical, or just plain silly.

(Keep in mind resolutions are mainly to tell yourself that you have goals for the new year. Whether you make the effort to accomplish them is up to you.)
