Cupcake of the Week: Brooklyn Cupcake

Visited a friends new apartment in LIC.  We both past Brooklyn Cupcake (irony?) and were highly recommended to try by a customer.

With flavors like French Toast (with or without maple syrup), Coquito, Rainbow Cookie, and Tres Leche who can go wrong.  These cakes can last a few days fridge and still taste good.

Cupcake of the Week: Shark Week

Save Snuffy, eat a cupcake.

Shark Week is summer’s version of Christmas.  Whether it’s the video of sharks tearing flesh from fishbone or just the mind blowing knowledge how they operate — it’s one of the highlights of summer. For the third time, Georgetown Cupcakes is again honoring the period with special Shark Week cupcakes.

These are only available online or by emailing your nearest store for pickup or delivery.

NOTE: Shark Week starts Aug 4th, 2013 for inquiring minds.

Cupcake of the Week: Dylan’s Candy Bar

Q: Ever wonder what’s really inside a cupcake?
Although Dylan’s Candy Bar renovated their upstairs cafe quite a bit, I never really had a reason to go check it out.  Or perhaps I was just waiting for the right company.

This weekend was Victoria’s birthday and we ended the night at Dylan’s Candy Bar.  At the back they had three giant cupcake seating for larger groups, and we were lucky enough to snag one.

Cupcake of the Week: Charm City Cupcakes

Charm City Cupcakes – Inner Harbor

Went to Baltimore last week for a short trip.  I found this cute cupcake shop, Charm City Cupcakes, that took over an ice cream shop in one of the mini malls in the Inner Harbor.  I had initially wanted ice cream, but cupcakes will certainly suffice.

We purchased a Caramel Praline and a vanilla Black-eyed Susan.  I had the Black-eyed Susan, which was a vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting in the middle.

If you’re going to Otakon or have a chance to go there I recommend getting one to try!

Cupcake of the Week: Cinderella

Picture via Magnolia’s blog

In honor of Rodger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Magnolia has created an exclusive “Cinderella” cupcake. It’s a cupcake decked out in vanilla buttercream with a sugared glass slipper on top.

Whether you like vanilla or chocolate cake head to Magnolia’s Rock Center location to see if this shoe fits!

*Only found at the Rock Center location.

Cupcake of the Week: Dylan’s Candy Bar

A cupcake fit for a princess: lots of sugar, lots of frosting.

Dylan’s Candy Bar is a store full of candy that we all grew up and loved. It’s kitschy and full of pop, and a tiny bit of a tourist trap. However it doesn’t hurt to shop there once in awhile if you are looking for something specific or a unique gift for a Yankee Swap.  Also you can see winning outfits from Project Runway competition when they raided the store for materials.

Apparently they have expanded quite a bit since I’ve been here last, improving their cafe portion and moving their private room in the basement to upstairs.  Naturally they sold cupcakes.  But not ordinary ones. This “Princess” cupcake was one of three they still had at the end of the day.  The other two was Red Velvet and one with Gummi Bears. Made up of chocolate cake and Sixlets, it’s an ordinary cupcake that has been jazzed up.

Also if you are in need of a sugar high, these cupcakes have a lot of buttercream frosting — as in half cake, half frosting.

Cupcake of the Week: Cako

This is a special “Cupcake of the Week” as I’m in San Francisco for the week. Cako is a local cupcake bakery in the Bay Area. They have your regular flavors like red velvet and vanilla to the more eccentric like maple bacon and pink lemonade. Also something called a “Rich and Famous” – essentially chocolate ganache frosting with chocolate cake.

Cupcake of the Week: LovelyLeeSoaps

This cupcake is actually soap!  This was in my gift bag from International Lolita Day at Lady Mendl’s.  From the creative mind of LoveLeeSoaps, this is a gift that’s too good to use.  Her shop has all types of food shape soaps from cupcakes to PopTarts to even pie!

But as a future tip for those who keep getting fragrant smelling things, you can always put them in your clothes/craft/fabric drawers!

Cupcake of the Week: Cupcake Tree

Thanksgiving is over which means you have yet to get a jump on that extra long holiday list.  Instead of worrying about not taking advantage of the Black Friday deals start decorating that tree you just put up.

These ornaments were found at Mary Arnold Toys, the oldest toy store in New York City.  We stopped in on our way to a brunch at Hi-Life.  And if our tree wasn’t so small it would definitely be on our tree.
